Global Biotech Week Recap

Andrew Byrne October 1, 2019

In case you missed it, last week was Global Biotech Week #GBW2019

Events were held across the globe in support of not just biotechnology but of all the biosciences and the bioeconomy. On Tuesday, September 24, BioNB held its annual networking event, Innovation at The Market and presented anessa biogas with the New Brunswick Bioscience Achievement Award. The event was held at the Boyce Farmer’s Market in Fredericton where over 60 people gathered to network and celebrate all the innovators in the biosciences around the province of New Brunswick.

The following day, Jennifer O’Donnell (Executive Director) and Andrew Byrne (Marketing & Comms Director) headed off to Sarnia, Ontario for the 2nd annual BioDesign Conference. BioNB along with our partners, Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC), Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC), FPInnovations, and BIOTECanada have created the BioDesign consortium as the vehicle that will enable Canada to become a leader in the development of biomass value chains. BioDesign along with over 400 industry stakeholders also created Canada’s National Bioeconomy Strategy back in May of this year.

This event was held again at Lambton College, one of the leading colleges for innovation in the biosciences in the entire country. People from industry, academia, and government all came together to celebrate our achievements, and the launch of the BioDesign website, www.canadabiodesign.com, as well as learn from each other’s pain points by holding our first BioDesign workshop since the website was launched. It was a truly collaborative experience and we can’t wait for next year’s event.
