As the New Brunswick Cannabis Coordinator project officially wraps up, the project proponent has officially launched a report on Cannabis Economic Opportunities – An Atlantic Canada Perspective.
Global legalization of recreational cannabis use and production continues to accelerate, ushering in new opportunities and increased pressures. Jurisdictions across Canada and around the world are racing to find their competitive advantage as the cannabis industry matures against the backdrop of COVID-19 economic recovery.
The field of competition will become more crowded each year as new entrants exploit favourable conditions in growing and diversifying markets. In order to capitalize on this opportunity, we need to better understand what assets we can leverage to our collective advantage and where to best position opportunities related to research, commercialization, and policy development to ensure a growing and prosperous cannabis industry here at home.
This in-depth and extensive report on the state of the industry also illustrates the opportunities that cannabis represents within existing sectors like agriculture, horticulture and advanced manufacturing and where we can collectively support lateral linkages through new technology development, research and export opportunities.
The time to make the most of the cannabis opportunities in Atlantic Canada is now. BioNB and the New Brunswick Cannabis Office have been successful with bringing industry together during the early days of legal recreational cannabis, and now is the time to create a formal Atlantic Canadian cannabis industry coalition to realize the real opportunities as they relate to this sector. With your help, we can provide sustainable economic value to our communities well into the future.
