Chinova Bioworks, maker of the natural mushroom chitosan preservative ingredient Chiber™, received its designation as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) by an independent expert panel on October 12, 2018. This designation is based on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements. The GRAS determination applies exclusively to Chinova Bioworks’ mushroom chitosan preservative, and for specific uses that Chinova Bioworks has designated.

“Having our Chiber™ mushroom chitosan ingredient recognized as GRAS allows us to commercialize our natural solution in the U.S. market for the first time. It demonstrates Chinova’s commitment to the highest standards of quality and safety of our ingredient. This is an important milestone for us and an exciting development for our customers who are eager to replace artificial preservatives and make their foods and beverages healthy and clean label.” – Natasha Dhayagude, Chief Executive Officer, Chinova Bioworks.
