Crop Specialist – Small Fruit and Cranberry
The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is seeking an individual to join the Crop Sector Development Branch in Fredericton, as a Provincial Small Fruit and Cranberry Specialist.
As a member of the Crop Sector Development Branch and reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: developing, implementing and evaluating strategies, programs and initiatives to strengthen and build the Province’s small fruit and cranberry industries; providing technical advice and leadership in the development of these sectors in the Province and working with industry stakeholders and departmental staff to improve competitiveness; keeping up-to-date on new production and management practices; working to address constraints to development; working to promote sustainable growth of these sectors; advising the Department, Provincial Government and other agencies on policy and issues related to the small fruit sectors, as required; keeping up-to-date on research and the adoption of emerging technologies affecting production; conducting/coordinating research; understanding certification programs related to food safety; working in cooperation with regional staff, provincial specialists and industry; representing the Province, as required, at the inter-provincial and national level on issues relating to the sectors; and performing other related duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be responsible for the production of cranberries and the production of small fruit crops such as strawberries, raspberries, haskaps and grapes throughout the province.
