Location: Fredericton, some opportunities for candidates in Miramichi, Boistown, Doaktown, Bathurst area.


Several candidates are needed to help with field and laboratory studies to evaluate semiochemical products for mating disruption and the management of spruce budworm populations.

Work will begin in early June and may extend into August. The work will be part-time in nature with no fixed hours. Candidates must have flexible schedules, be willing to work weekends and long hours under conditions that will sometimes be physically demanding. Pay will be commensurate with experience. Meal allowances, transport and overnight accommodation will be provided as necessary when working on the field. Experience with similar work is desirable but not essential. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to personal transport would be an asset.


Tasks include but are not limited to:

a) general field and laboratory work

b) insect collection and rearing

c) preparation and collection of semiochemical formulation samples for chemical analysis or bioassay

d) preparation, testing and deployment of field equipment

e) collection of foliage samples and assessment of spruce budworm population levels

f) deployment and collection of insects and pheromone traps for mating disruption and behavioural studies

g) dissection of female insects to determine mating status

h) analysis of digital images collected during product efficacy testing and behavioural studies

i) collection and microscopic analysis of samples for spray deposit and particle size analysis

j) data compilation
